Initial Situation.

Steinbach am Attersee is the largest municipality in the district of Vöcklabruck in terms of area, yet the municipality has only just under 900 inhabitants (main residence). Due to its beautiful location directly on Lake Attersee, the pressure on housing is great. Creating more single-family homes is not an option for the municipality. However, there is hardly any affordable housing available (for young people). On the other hand, there is an ageing population group with generous living space that is increasingly dependent on the help of others. There is a lack of suitable offers for both interest groups. Steinbach am Attersee would like to create a joint response here with ONE innovative housing concept.

“How do we want to live when we are old?” asks Mayor Nicole Eder, making it clear that something “new” is needed. For Steinbach am Attersee, the task is to think NEW about a generation house on a 3000m² undeveloped plot in the middle of the village. How does such a concept work, with young and old living together? What needs do these different target groups have? What do the functional and spatial solutions look like? How and where does community work and where do we need places for quiet? Which age-related infrastructures are absolutely necessary and which third infrastructures could dock here to create added value for ALL?
